Silvering Glass
to Make a Glass Mirror
Although earlier techniques of making reflecting glass mirrors had
existed, it was in the period between 1200 and 1400 that chemical
and alchemical experiments provided a satisfactory method to make
high quality mirrors. Here Graham Reed of Scotia Glass Technology
demonstrates the making of a convex mirror, from the original 'seeding'
of the liquid, the setting of the sliver in the glass, to the final
effective convex mirror.
