Turning Sand
into Glass
In the glass kiln of Crystal Glass Works at Stourbridge, near Birmingham,
England, we can see the first stages of glass making. Sand is shovelled
into a very hot furnace and turns into liquid. The liquid glass is
then ladled into a drum of cold water. It bubbles and bursts, showing
for a moment the delicacy of forms it can achieve.
